In-Situ Testing

The pictures shown here are a small part of the in-situ testing products and services Interfels offers. Our abilities range from the supply of a borehole jack to the design and implementation of an entire site investigation and testing job.

Borehole Slotter
Borehole Slotter   Non-overcoring in-situ stressmeter for 2D and 3D stress measurements in rock. The boreholes can be pre-drilled and no drill crew assistance is required during testing. Requires typical hole size of HQ (96mm) to HD101.

Borehole or rock widening tests are usually carried out with the view to determine the in-situ moduli of the ground, be it soil or rock, thus providing one of the most important input parameters for a geotechnical design. The tests can also serve as a quality control for man made deposits such as embankments and refuse dump materials.

    Borehole Jack
The Interfels Borehole jacks IF96 and IF146 are specially designed for applications in soil and soft rock and can be operated in pre-drilled boreholes. Requires typical hole size of HQ (96mm) to HD101 (101mm) or SQ (146mm).   Borehole Jack

Dilatometer
Dilatometer   The dilatometer measures change in borehole diameter in 3 directions. The range of the dilatometer extends from Young's Modulus range of 50 MPa to about 20 GPa. Requires typical hole size of HQ (96mm) to HD101 (101mm).

    Goodman Jack
Used for deformability testing of rock within the Young's Modulus range of about 1 to 50 GPa and particulary suitable for intensively fractured hard rock such as limestones, dolomites and slates. Requires a 76mm borehole.   Goodman Jack

Flat Jack Testing
Flat Jack Testing   This large (1200mm diameter) saw is cutting a slot for a 1.2m flat jack test. The flat jack test is used to determine the deformation moduli and in-situ stress in rock masses. It is particulary suitable for investigations in dam abutments and in underground caverns.

    Point Load Tester
The pointload strength test is an index test for the strength of intact rock. It is carried out on practically all major rock construction sites. "A must" for any geotechnical drill core logging.
