Interfels Vibrating Wire Crackmeter is designed to measure displacements across cracks and joints in buildings, bridges, dams, pipelines etc. It can measure in expansion and compression of joints.
The crackmeter comprises of a VW displacement transducer and a pair of groutable or expanding shell anchors. The sensor is installed by grouting, threading or fixing expansion anchors to the structure to be monitored. The anchors can incorporate ball joints where they connect to the body of the instrument so that any differential cross-axis movement as the crack propagates does not cause the connecting rod to lock-up within the sensor body.
With over 30 years experience in Vibrating Wire technology, Interfels sensor is robust, has excellent long term stability and can be used with long cable lengths without any signal degradation. The sensor functions by changing the tension in a spring which is in turn connected to a vibrating wire at one end and a connecting rod at the other. The rod is fully sealed with 'O' rings to prevent water ingress into the sensor.
